Artful Science, God’s Handiwork.

Fulfilled a childhood dream today and saw a room full of astrolabes in the flesh! The sciences flourished in the Middle East long before we had terms like ‘civilization.’ What’s striking for me is how art married science–these two sides of the same coin–can you imagine? This period in human history made me wonder: How much did we know then that disappeared throughout the ages? How wonderfully creative were we that with few simple tools we could produce these beautiful instruments that could define time for us and help us navigate at sea by starlight? –In love with I M Pei’s structure but also with Islamic art. So much to gape at and be in awe of. Funny to have this sense of God in a country so different from what I know–but He is here and wow, the illuminated pages of the Qu’ran make my heart swell!
